Nicole Manion

Nicole-Manion
Age:
 18 | Height: 5’10″
Hometown: Bracebridge, ON

Nicole was raised in the scenic District of Muskoka, where people come from all over the world to vacation in the indescribable Cottage Country .

Muskoka is really making its mark, becoming National Geographic’s “Best Trip of Summer 2011” Which made the population from just over 50,000 permanent residents, but an additional 100,000 seasonal property owners spend their summers in the region every year, making this a major colony.

Many of the seasonal properties are large mansion-like summer estates, some of which have been passed down through families from generation to generation.

Most of these expensive properties can be found along the shores of Muskoka’s three major lakes: Lake Muskoka, Lake Rosseau and Lake Joseph. In recent years, various Hollywood sports stars have built retreats in Muskoka, including Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Mike Weir, Martin Short, Harry Hamlin, Cindy Crawford, Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

Its not uncommon to come across Hollywood stars in the summer. Nicole wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, that’s why she cant express enough why its such a honor to wear the sash of Miss Muskoka.

Nicole’s childhood was amazing She wouldn’t change a thing. Nicole has a younger sister named Marcy, she’s two years younger, they act like best friends. Nicole’s father owns a Marina Called Manion Marine which for 12 yrs it was on the same property as Nicole’s house. Her mothers a Hair Dresser, she works from home as well and has for 16 yrs.

Nicole can’t express how important it was being raised, with both parents working from home. Nicole couldn’t be more grateful for having such a tight knit family. Having both parents owning their own businesses came to a advantage for the Manion Family, they always took every moment they could to escape to Georgian Bay to their Cottage retreat.

Nicole’s mother is very artsy and it reflects on both her Daughters. Her father not so much, he made Nicole the shop girl when she was only 13, cleaning boats and dealing with customers. This has made Nicole a hard worker and made her realize what a little hard work can do.

Nicole’s family and friends know she’s an independent woman and won’t let anything get in her way. Having her Fire Arms License, Chainsaw License and of course Boat and snowmobile License has made her a outstanding role model for young woman. She couldn’t ask for a better childhood, its made her who she is today.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

My parents have put me in almost every sport imaginable, Swimming, Gymnastics, Tennis, Field Hockey, Horse Back Riding, Volleyball, Track and Field, Baseball, Skiing and the list goes on.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

The person who has the most influence in my life is the Mother of the family I Nanny, Jacqueline. Before I became their Personal Nanny I shared a strong bond with Jacque’s Family. It all started when they moved down my road and joined the same barn I rode horses at. I would ride with Jacque and her daughter Lake when I was only in grade 7. This went on for a yr, then Jacque was picking her daughter Lake up from school, to go to the barn. She said I have something to tell you, “ I have breast Cancer” Right then I started crying and asking question, trying to hold the tears back.

When Jacque was sick she was still the most beautiful woman I had ever met. She would always have a smile on her face and talking about nothing but positive things.  Ill never forget the day when I was on my bike heading back home after a riding lesson, and a jeep pulled up beside me. JACQUE! She had a colorful scarf on her head, and no hair in site. We talked and then she had to go. For some reason I’ll never forget that day.

She’s the most down to earth and strong woman I know. Her illness never kept her down she was always on the go, always caring about others. She’s been 5 years cancer free and I’m so grateful she’s still here to watching her two beautiful kids grow. We always laugh about how she’s like my second mom and a best friend, I can tell her anything and she knows what to say.  Now that I work for them I feel as if it was all meant to be. I wish she only knew how much she meant to me and how much I look up to her. I wish I could be half the woman she is! She’s my number one role model, and possibly my number one Pageant fan.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

I couldn’t thank my parents enough for bring me up this way.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in the most amazing District of Muskoka, where people spend millions and millions of dollars to vacation here, and I get to live here all yr round. Muskoka is really making its mark, becoming National Geographic’s “Best Trip of Summer 2011” Which made our population from just over 50,000 permanent residents, but an additional 100,000 seasonal property owners spend their summers in the region every year, making this a major summer colony. Its not uncommon to come across Hollywood starts in the summer. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else, that’s why its such a honor to wear the sash of Miss Muskoka.

My childhood was amazing I wouldn’t change a thing. I have a younger sister named Marcy, she’s two years younger then me. People have no idea were related she has opposite fetchers but same parents! My dad owns a dry land Marina Called Manion Marine which for 12 yrs it was on the same property as my house. Also my moms a Hair dresser, she works from home and has for 16 yrs. I would brought up around people and I couldn’t be more grateful. Also having both parents working at home we would always have someone greet Marcy and I when we got off the bus. Mom is very artsy and it reflects on Marcy and I, were very creative and artistic. Dad on the other hand not to much, he made me the shop girl when I was only 13, cleaning boats dealing with customers. This has made me a hard worker and made me realize what a little hard work can do. I couldn’t ask for a better childhood.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

The most unusual job I ever had was working in a Butcher Shop, I never cut the meat but I was in charge of dealing with customers and also serving. I worked there through the school yr part time and full time in the summer. It lasted for two yrs, it wasn’t a bad job, just didn’t want to do it for the rest of my life.

List any volunteering you have done.

I volunteer at the local Old Age Homes, Breakfast Clubs for public school students, Penny drives with the local banks for kids in Africa, I have ran for the Donor Donation Foundation, I do public speaking and fun days at the local schools in Muskoka.

What is your most unusual talent?

Most unusual talent would be I hurdle everything! I ran track in high school, I specialized in hurdles, when I was little I would always run and jump over puddles or whatever was in my way. If we were warming up for Volleyball running around the gym and a chair, or a desk was in the way I would leap over it like a wild horse. For my Preliminary pageant Miss Northern Ontario Pageant 2012 I did a hurdle routine to “Lets Get Loud” by- JLO dancing and doing hurdle warm up moves. I couldn’t of been happier!

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

The most interesting place I have ever been is scuba driving in Cozumel Mexico, where my Dad, Sister and I went for the adventure of a life time. Swimming around like mermaids with colorful fish and sea turtles, it was breath taking. Our guide took us to the 10th best reef in the world; my dream of becoming a mermaid came true that day. Ill never forget that whole other world.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years, I hope to be a successful business woman, who has a great sense of health and wellness. Married and have two healthy children of my own. But before settling down I hope to have accomplished all my goals and be satisfied with the outcome. Also to live by “don’t have regrets” and also “Never say Never”

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

My own question:

What has pageants done for your as a person?

Pageants have changed my life, I cant even start to describe the feeling I get when I watch them or even better experience them. Being 17 and getting asked to compete in the upcoming Miss Universe Canada Pageant was a dream and its coming true! Being in Miss Northern Ontario has made me a more organized person and more confident. I carry my self with poise and self-a-steam. I’m not very intelligent in the books department and that always seemed to shadow me wherever I would go. But I feel like I have so much more to offer. I feel as if I have a place on this earth now. I have built such a wide range of friends though this experience and some ill never forget. Pageants have made me realize the sky is the limit! I can’t thank the people enough who spend time organizing these life changing opportunities for young woman.
