Talvir Sander

TALVIR SANDERHeight: 5’10″
Hometown: Fort McMurray, AB

Talvir Sander is determined to leave a legacy behind that will be acknowledged as a movement for individuals to be leaders for generations to come. She trusts that accomplishing a goal of innate belief is a mandatory requirement to be successful.

She has a dynamic combination of education, travel, work and life experience. Travelling to countries such as India, Hong Kong, Mexico, where basic necessities of life such as food, water, and shelter are not met, has given Miss.Sander appreciation for the value of what western civilization offers. Talvir has studied the field of psychology, criminology, and business throughout her post secondary education and continues to do so through work experience. She has attended private school growing up, and Douglas College and Simon Fraser University in ladder years. She suggests that there is too much information and knowledge the world offers, to be gained in one life period.

She is passionate about reading, writing and being in the company of inspiring individuals. Reading non fictional literature of historical figures such as Greek philosophers Socrates, Plato and Aristotle has enhanced the state of being over the course of her life. She believes that writing is a form of history, it will be the only record left of a persons thoughts once they have left the Earth, hence the reason Talvir can date back to early in life to diaries and journals that she has written.

Miss. Sander is employed by Executive Flight Centre in the operations sector and continuously volunteers to promote healthy lifestyles in her community. Talvir is motivated to be a great older sister. She strives to be the best possible example for experience and knowledge to ensure that girls do not fall short of their dreams. True beauty according to Miss. Sander is not external, a true beauty has a mind of a brilliant individual who sees the opportunity and ability to succeed in any obstacle or challenge that comes her way.

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

Learning, observing, working out, reading, going for long drives listening to music, travelling to new cities and countries of different cultures.

What I enjoy doing the most, is listening to knowledge from successful people. By success I mean, anyone who has succeeded in what I strive to become, a successful independent individual. I like these insights from people who are currently happy and fulfilled with their accomplishments through the different stages the journey offers.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I have attended private school in British Columbia from the ages 3-11. This was a religious school that my parents follow, it consisted of music training, punjabi language training, and respectfully inheriting the indian culture. It was a subculture within the larger culture of western civilization. I also travelled majority of the summers over seas to visit my family who lives in Hong Kong/ India/ Germany. Although I was born in St. Pauls hospital in the heart of Vancouver B.C., and lived majority of my life in British Columbia, the exposure of the western culture did not come into my life until later in my teen years.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

I have participated in almost every sport out there because I am a fairly competitive individual, but the one sport I am passionate about is definitely volleyball. I played throughout elementary school, and then high school, and even in University when I had time between classes and work.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

Audrey Hepburn. I have always admired her growing up… There was an odd attraction to her photographs whenever I came across them. Through out high school and even now I tend to research her life. She has a very conspicuous look to her, which always interested me, as if she had lots going on intrinsically but only shared a portion of it with the external world. At least that’s what I got out of her photographs. I have followed her life accordingly and tend to find many similarities in how she was brought up, and the exposure of relationships she had. I always felt as though I could relate to her introspective odd passionate personality. I absolutely adore that Givenchy was the man who often dressed her, and hope to have someone of similar value in my life one day. Although she appeared to be successful in her life and to the world, in majority of the literature I studied, I found that she always had a sad connotation to her being, an unfulfilled portion. I also feel like that in many ways in my life, hence the reason I strive to succeed in so many dynamic sectors of my life.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

Learning to listen to my instinctual feelings and thoughts opposed to external sources. It took me a very long time to come to this, but over the course of my experiences in life and the travel and exposure to many different situations, I found that I have to listen to my own thoughts and in order for me to truly be successful I have to do what I think is right, and feel is right for myself and the future.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

The most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to me would have to be taking ownership of my life, and becoming independent and succeeding at it. I still have a ways to go, but from where I come from and what I was taught to be growing up, I have diverted from that life and taken my own path, the path that I am currently taking fulfills my internal desires. It has shown me that life truly is limitless, and to achieve, change/altering ones state of mind and thinking is a key component to success, which also goes hand in hand with helping those in need, it is the only true success and happiness.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I want to be able to public speak and bring awareness of the fact that in order to be successful, you must believe in yourself. You must take the time to invest in yourself, you must dedicate one hundred and ten percent of your desire and hard work to achieve what many call dreams, and make those dreams into goals (goals are only dreams with deadlines). What I am doing is working in different fields, to understand the different dynamics of industry that exist, and the types of individuals that exist. Gaining as much experience through the technical aspect of things, but also the demographic and people side of things. To experience what makes people fail, and why they give up. I also read many different types of literature whenever I am not focused on getting something done, in order to store more knowledge into my mind to enhance my thought process when different situations arise. I travel as well, and whenever I travel I always try to find people I can chat with and teach me about their lives, usually locals. The reason I choose locals is because they have lived their lives in that geographical area for a period of time, and therefore they have experience and knowledge and information that no textbook, or teacher can teach you about another culture or the people of that country.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

To be an actress, to be able to bring to life the thoughts and stories of writers and visually allow the public to see what goes on in a creative mind.

Are you currently a student?

Yes, I am a student of Douglas College, and Simon Fraser University.

Douglas college: Criminology Diploma. Simon Fraser University: General Arts degree with a focus on Psychology, Criminology, and Business.

Are you currently employed?

Yes, Executive Flight Centre I am an Operations Analyst and Customer Service Representative in Fort McMurray Alberta.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in British Columbia, born in St.Pauls hospital… I attended private school all of my childhood. I was sent to India early in my childhood prior to preschool with my grandmother (dads mother) and according to the stories my parents tell me I was upset when I came back to Canada 2 years later and did not recognize either one of them, and was crying and weeping asking for my grandmother to take me home. In the house that I was raised I was the eldest child, with my mom and dad, my grandparents, two uncles (dads younger brothers), and my younger brother. I was given a lot of attention being the first child of the family, and had close relationships with all the males in my family. My grandma passed away shortly after we came back to canada with diabetes. She requested to be sent back to her village and so my dad and grandfather did that for her. I lived with my uncles and parents and my grandpa, and often visited my moms parents and brother in Hong Kong in the summer time. My mother has two other sisters, the older one married to a man in Germany with two children, the youngest sister married my dads brother with 2 children as well. My dad was a business man, involved in corporate and residential industry of labour work, owning his own businesses. Although I went to private school, we often moved homes, depending on what business was like during that time.

I am able to blur out everything around me in my visual and solely focus on what I seek to learn from , along with being a good multi-tasker and dancer (at least I like to think I am).

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

The Taj Mahal: The thought that this wonder of the world was created by a man, who so deeply adored/loved his wife, that he went so far to have a palace built for her by hundreds and thousands of people, in a time where transportation and communication was not remotely close to what we have today. Shows that where there is a “will” there definitely is a WAY!

What do you hope to be doing in 10 years?

I hope to be writing books on success, and successful experiences, and over coming obstacles. I also will continue to study and learn about the world, be healthy, be able to speak to crowds of people and express the depth of intrinsic power and growth and how important it is to believe in yourself. I hope to have a family, I hope to be in LOVE, with possibly one or two children. And able to travel to places around the world to experience cultures, and raise my children in this lifestyle. I hope to help anywhere I am able too, and most importantly I hope to be HAPPY!

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

YES, I would like to THANK YOU for this opportunity, and the city of Fort McMurray… Because without the people that exist in that city and relationships/networks that I’ve built in the last 3 years with women who openly shared their experiences, I would never had even thought to be here today. It is an honour to be part of a nation wide event, thank you.
