What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?
I am highly interested in finding new ways to express who I am through creativity. I love making music, painting, cooking, working out, reading, meditating, and inspiring others through my podcast. Music has always been a passion of mine, but only recently have I gained the courage to pursue it. If I am not writing songs or producing music on my synthesizer, I balance my hard work with relaxing and strengthening activities. I highly value exploring my passions through creativity, which has helped me regain control of my life and have a strong identity.
List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)
I was a competitive dancer for 4 years of my life. I completed in hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, stage, and jazz.
In what sports, if any, have you participated?
Throughout my life, I have done figure skating, dance, field hockey, soccer, tumbling, track and field, and volleyball.
Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
My cousin Michelle Voyageur has had a significant impact on my life. She is the perfect example of a strong and resilient woman in Canada. I interviewed her in my documentary, ‘Indigenous Women and 2 Spirit People in Canada’. Michelle is brave and strong, so she shared her story with the world and provided insight into indigenous people’s challenges in our country. She is a beacon of light, and her positivity is something I greatly look up to. She always makes my day whenever I speak with her; she is always kind and optimistic. Her positivity, kindness, and bravery give me courage, strength, and hope. I strive to follow in her footsteps of leadership.
What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?
My proudest accomplishment was the completion of my documentary. I created the soundtrack for my documentary and did all of the editing. Overall I am most proud of being able to amplify others’ voices. The documentary includes quotes and clips from indigenous people speaking out about the treatment they have received in Canada. The documentary follows the colonization of Canada to the present day and the effect that it has had on indigenous people. It’s important to amplify and shine a light on others’ voices, and I am proud of being able to do that In such a large manner.
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
Something interesting about my life is all of the filming that has been done at my house. I live on a farm outside of Vancouver, and many times people have come to shoot tv commercials, shows, and movies at my home. The most recent production filmed at my house was in 2019 when they filmed an episode of Supernatural in my barn. It was fantastic to meet Kim Rhodes in my backyard. The film crew is always so lovely, and they let me in at the concession! One time they gave me a whole bag of dried mangos because they saw how much I loved them.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I am very ambitious about becoming a professional singer/songwriter. I plan to have an EP out sometime in August. I am working hard at singing practice, songwriting, and music production to accomplish this goal. I have excellent time management and balance, so I can always show up for myself to my highest potential. Alongside Zen meditation and working out, I read books, limit my social media use and eat nutritious meals to have energy and excitement when it’s time to focus and create. I am committed to dedicating time every day to produce music, with the ultimate goal of sharing it with the world and launching my career in the near future.
What would be your “dream job” in life?
My dream job would consist of activism and singing. I am very passionate about women’s rights and the disputes we are facing as an entire world. I have various ideas on movements and projects I want to launch that will help bring the world to a higher state of awareness. As I am very serious about my role in activism, I must also create a balance. I want to bring people together through the art of music and be able to love and have fun without thinking so earnestly of ourselves and our lives. Music and activism are excellent tools that bring much love and unity to our universe. I have always felt very drawn to this career path.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
Growing up, I lived on a blueberry farm in a small town outside Vancouver. My family consists of my parents, sister, and my lovely beagle, Tippy. During my childhood, my favourite pastime was playing with my sister and cousin in our above-ground pool during the summer. It was always peaceful when we played, as our backyard and field stretched far.
Although my cousin is three years older and my sister two years older, I didn’t mind being the youngest as it gave me an advantage in games like Marco Polo. After the sunset, we would play Minecraft in my sister’s room until my mom came in and told us it was too late. I enjoyed school a lot too. I love having the opportunity to learn as I am very curious. Math and art were my favourite courses. I attended public school from preschool to high school. I am graduating high school this year, 2023.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
I once worked for my friend’s grandma In the headquarters of a jewelry office. All of the workers were really sweet and gave us drafted jewelry one day in payment for all of our hard work. It was amazing to be given the opportunity to see the behind-the-scenes of how a large company runs their business.
List any volunteering you have done.
I have volunteered at ‘Women Helping Women’ this past year in my community. WHW receives and packages holiday gifts for women in need. I have also volunteered at a Rock and Gem show hosted in my community.
What is your most unusual talent?
My most unusual talent is my ability to throw cards at high speed. My sister and I loved the movie ‘Now You See Me,’ so we took it upon ourselves one summer to learn how to throw cards exactly like Dave Franco in the film. After watching many YouTube videos, I finally mastered throwing cards with the flick of my risk.
Where is the most interesting place you have been to?
The most interesting place I have been to is Las Vegas. I visited Las Vegas in late September 2019, just before covid hit. Although I loved the In n Out burger, the people are what made it interesting. I went to an I Heart radio concert where I saw several amazing artists perform, like Lil Nas X, the backstreet boys, and Cage The Elephant. Cage The Elephant had one of the most exciting performances ever. They really inspired me to pursue music. I also saw Chris Angel perform his magic show which was so fascinating to me. We got upgraded seats to the 5th row from being in the very back, it was a magical night!
What do you hope to be doing in ten years?
In ten years, I hope to live in Southern France, working as a women’s rights activist and singer/ songwriter. I want to work closely with children and women directly affected by society’s hostile perception of them. I want to work with film production to portray women, kids, and relationships accurately. I want to travel to different areas worldwide to perform my music and to do presentations on different ways to live your best life from a scientific and spiritual standpoint, as well as the successful advocacy projects I’ve done. I see myself as a powerful and independent woman who brings new ideas and solutions to our world so we can evolve into our highest selves. I want to create programs and movements that reach the core of the issues we face as a society. I see myself continuing my podcast and amplifying the voices of refugees, women, and people worldwide to whom society doesn’t give a voice.
Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?
I am very grateful for this platform as a Miss Universe Canada 2023 delegate to continue spreading love and light into Canada and our Universe.
