Occupation: Entrepreneur & Actress
Mia Fiona Kut is an innovative and multifaceted Canadian born in British Columbia with proud Indonesian, Chinese, and Russian roots that instilled in her strong values of independence and creativity. Graduating from Simon Fraser University with a Major in Communications, she embarked on a 7-year stint in the film industry as a professional actress, writer and director of multiple award-winning short films. With her deft versatility, she played a wide range of roles as a music prodigy, to a politician’s lover in TV shows and feature films. During this time, she also launched her business at the age of 27, Luna Nectar — a sustainable hair care brand retailing in over 500 stores worldwide. She was the recipient of the 2019 BC Business 30 Under 30 Award and the 2023 Visa She’s Next Award. Currently, she is a Nominee for the 2024 YWCA Women of Distinction in Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award, presented by Scotiabank. Her business has also been featured in Vogue.
Mia’s mission is to inspire confidence and radiance to women of all ages through her innovations in the hair care industry. By donating Luna Nectar products to women’s shelters, sponsoring community events that educate and empower other women entrepreneurs, and as a part of the board of advisors of a women entrepreneur empowerment organization, Mia’s leadership and passion is evident.
When Mia is not seen acting on the big screen or building her multinational hair care brand, she enjoys immersing herself in new cultures while traveling the globe, snowboarding, and kayaking down Deep Cove in British Columbia. Through recently overcoming a year-long post concussion syndrome from a sports accident and rewiring her mindset, Mia’s resiliency shines as she aims to spread awareness on brain health and neuroplasticity.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
An actor that played my father in a feature film that I was casted for. He had auditioned for the film out of a whim, and now we’ve become lifelong friends. He is an amazing mentor that has taught me so much, and has taken me on as his own daughter figure. His strong character, generosity, and kindness have touched me in many ways.
What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?
My proudest personal accomplishment has been rewiring my brain and healing it completely from a year-long post concussion syndrome from two sports accidents. During that year, I had to take a complete break from all work, social activities, and my personal commitments. I didn’t know if I was ever going to heal. As I stayed in bed for months, I had time to slow down and reflect. My perspective on life completely shifted. I gradually returned to daily life with gratitude at a second chance at life, increased resilience, and a greater re-ignition of passion in helping others.
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
The most interesting thing about me is that I used to write, produce, and direct films. One of my films was even nominated as ‘Best Canadian Short Film’ at the Vancouver Asian Film Festival! I love being able to illustrate powerful messages and inspire positive change through storytelling through the medium of motion picture.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I am fortunate to have founded and established a global business for the past 7 years doing what I love, and bringing practical solutions to the market for women to feel more radiant and confident both inside and out.
What would be your “dream job” in life?
My dream job would be one that allows me to travel the world and make a positive impact and difference, and provide equal educational opportunities for youth. At the moment, I’m working my dream job having founded my own company that innovates solutions and produces clean beauty education that help women‚Äôs health, inspire confidence and radiance within them. Through my entrepreneurship and community services, I have been able to create a safe space for women to talk about their hair health journey while overcoming hair loss.
I’m also able to use my leadership skills to nurture my team, and support other young female entrepreneurs. I am also proud to be on the board of advisors for a female entrepreneur empowerment organization, to support fellow business leaders and create opportunities for women in business.

What is your most unusual talent?
Being able to do the splits, even after a 20 year hiatus from dance lessons.
Where is the most interesting place you have been to?
Madeira, Portugal. It was a small rural island community where I had a chance to connect with the locals. I met a lady who had fled the war in the Ukraine with her daughter and was rebuilding her life in Madeira. She showed so much grace and courage, while still maintaining a full heart, and the locals assisted her as much as they could. This made me fall in love with the welcoming nature of the Madeiran people.
What do you hope to be doing in ten years?
In my career, I hope to continue to expand my business Luna Nectar, while helping women through my sustainable personal care innovations. I would also like to become an active real estate investor.
On a personal level, I hope to continue to travel the world while learning about new cultures, and partaking in initiatives that advocate for equal educational opportunities for youth.

It would be an honour to become Miss Universe Canada and have the opportunity to advocate for brain & mental health, and female entrepreneurship. I am deeply committed to leveraging this platform to contribute positively to my country and community.
