Q&A

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I am deeply interested in meeting new people and immersing myself in their unique cultures and life experiences. There’s something incredibly enriching about hearing individual stories and understanding different perspectives. Traveling is one of my greatest passions; I enjoy exploring new places and soaking in the beauty of diverse landscapes. I love spending time in nature, whether hiking through a forest, relaxing by a lake, or enjoying a peaceful walk in the park. Animals also hold a special place in my heart, and I cherish the companionship of my cat. My favorite moments are when I get to travel and then return home to enjoy some quiet, reflective time with my feline friend. These experiences collectively bring me joy and fulfillment.

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

While I haven’t undergone formal dance training, I have developed a passion for it in a more freelance and spontaneous manner. I enjoy exploring various dance styles and expressing myself through movement, often letting the music guide my steps. My approach is instinctive and fluid, as I find joy in dancing whenever I get the chance, whether at a social event, in a dance workshop, or simply in the comfort of my home.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

It has been quite some time since I last engaged in sports activities, but reflecting on my childhood brings back memories of my involvement in various athletic pursuits. I was particularly active in track and field, where I enjoyed the thrill of sprinting and the discipline of long-distance running. In addition to track, I played netball, a sport reminiscent of basketball but with its own unique rules and strategies. Being part of a team and working together to score points added an exciting dynamic to the experience.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

The person who has had the most profound influence on my life is Job from the Bible. Job stands out to me not because of his immense wealth and prosperity but for his remarkable and unwavering faith in God amidst unimaginable suffering.

The story of Job opens with a man who has everything—a thriving family, vast resources, and a reputation for righteousness. However, his life takes a drastic turn when he faces catastrophic losses: he loses his wealth, his health, and even his beloved family. Throughout all these trials, Job remains steadfast in his devotion to God, refusing to curse or abandon his faith.

What resonates deeply with me is Job’s extraordinary patience and resilience. In the face of relentless adversity, he engages in profound dialogues questioning his suffering, yet he never loses sight of his belief in divine justice. It is this complex interplay of doubt, sorrow, and steadfast faith that makes Job such a compelling figure in my life.

Whenever I go through difficult periods, I find solace and guidance in the book of Job. His journey serves as a powerful reminder that faith can coexist with questioning and that it’s okay to seek understanding during hardship. Each time I revisit his story, I come away with a renewed sense of faith, resilience, and patience. Job’s experiences inspire me to confront my challenges with a sense of courage and to trust in a greater purpose, just as he did.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

One of my most cherished achievements is raising three incredible children on my own. It has been a challenging yet rewarding experience filled with love, laughter, and countless unforgettable moments. I am filled with pride daily as I watch them grow and thrive.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

The most extraordinary experience I’ve ever had occurred in April 2016 during a particularly challenging time when I felt utterly lost. I was lying in bed with my eyes closed, not quite asleep, and it seemed as though my spirit/consciousness had detached from my body, floating out the window to a place that resembled heaven. At the entrance of this realm stood God, surrounded by an aura of white and gold, accompanied by the harmonious sounds of trumpets, harps, and angels. I distinctly remember touching His robe, which felt like velvet, though I couldn’t see His face. In an instant, my spirit returned to my body. Upon returning, the first words that escaped my lips, almost as if in a whisper, were “God is real”. This entire experience lasted no more than five seconds; even now, I struggle to comprehend it fully. Whenever I watch movies depicting near-death experiences, I notice that the descriptions of heaven align strikingly with the place I visited in April 2016.

Additionally, one of the most intriguing aspects of my body is my left hip; I can dislocate the femoral head from the acetabulum (socket) and then replace it.

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree with the aspiration of becoming a Doctor of Nursing Practice, which emphasizes advanced nursing practice and leadership. Upon completing my master’s program, I will dedicate my efforts to advancing my studies at the doctoral level.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

My dream job is to own my practice, enabling me to balance financial sustainability and humanitarian efforts. This means I would provide everyday services at my practice while also having the opportunity to travel to underserved areas around the world, donating my services to those who need it most.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised on the beautiful island of Jamaica, specifically in the parish of Portland, which is akin to a province but slightly smaller. My upbringing was off the grid, devoid of electricity, television, or phones. Our bathing rituals took place in the river, and we sourced our water from the earth, known as spring water. We lived in a modest one-bedroom house. Some mornings, I would wake up to a sturdy kick from my younger brother, who is six years my junior. We attended school barefoot, walking approximately five kilometers every day. By society’s standards, we were considered impoverished, but for us we felt rich. To this day, I don’t believe my parents ever saw themselves as poor. We were surrounded by love, and peace and happiness were the constant rhythms of our lives. My father had a wonderful voice and played both the flute and guitar. While he created beautiful music, my mother, brother, and I would dance around a fire pit outside, beneath the clear, moonlit skies. My mother would enjoy her beloved brandy during those evenings. Throughout the day, my brother and I played outdoors, climbing fruit trees, feeding the chickens, and engaging in our playful fights—often getting scolded for them. My father was wise, while my mother was brilliant. Together, they imparted values that we cherish to this day. They were our teachers. Looking back, I wouldn’t trade my upbringing for anything in the world. It instilled in me respect, satisfaction, joy, equality, and unconditional love for all.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

I cherish the experience of living in the present moment, as it is within this space that I have discovered true peace and happiness. However, as I look toward the future and consider the possibility of being blessed with another ten years of life, I envision a vibrant journey filled with travel and meaningful engagement. I hope to explore various corners of the world, immersing myself in diverse cultures and communities. During this time, I aspire to collaborate with charitable organizations and dedicate my efforts to hands-on humanitarian work. Whether it be advocating for mental health, assisting in education initiatives, or participating in health care outreach, I aim to make a tangible difference in the lives of those I encounter, all while gaining invaluable experiences and insights along the way.

Is there anything you would like to add that we haven’t asked?

Winning the title of Miss Universe Canada would be an unexpected yet transformative dream for me. I would wholeheartedly dedicate the crown and my platform to the mental health community, aiming to assemble a robust team that would travel across Canada, collaborating with charitable organizations to provide hands-on support to those in need. Together, we would make a meaningful contribution, redefining the essence of “PURPOSE” in the phrase “Beauty with a Purpose.” Furthermore, I would take great pride in representing the Miss Universe Organization and its subsidiaries as an entity committed to fostering significant.
