Rachel Dragas is an actor, model, neuroscientist, published author, and mental health advocate. Rachel brings a rare fusion of science, artistry, and social impact to the Miss Universe Canada stage. Born and raised in Toronto to parents of Serbian and Filipina descent, she holds both a Bachelor and Master of Science in Neuroscience from the University of Toronto.
With extensive training in clinical and translational research, Rachel has worked at leading institutions including The Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto Western Hospital. She has presented her work in ophthalmology, regenerative medicine, and stem cell therapy nationally and internationally, and been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
Beyond research, Rachel is deeply committed to mental health care and awareness. She works as a mental health professional and has also developed conferences, facilitated educational workshops, and produced publications and media campaigns highlighting Canada’s groundbreaking research and amplifying the voices of those with lived experience. Her advocacy has reached over 35,000 Canadians and earned support from prominent leaders and wellness champions including Sophie Trudeau, Margaret Trudeau, Former Chair of the Mental Health Commission of Canada, Michael Wilson, and Bell Let’s Talk Ambassador, Michael Landsberg.
Community service is the cornerstone of Rachel’s mission. In addition to her work, she has volunteered in neurology and neurosurgery at The Hospital for Sick Children, supported youth through STEM outreach with Let’s Talk Science, served as a mentor with the University of Toronto’s Alumni Peer Mentorship Program, and contributed to accessibility initiatives with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. Her commitment to leadership and mentorship has earned her numerous awards, including the Governor General’s Award, James Crothers Family Fellowship in Peripheral Nerve Damage, Unilever Graduate Fellowship, and the Gordon Cressy Leadership Award.
As an actor and model, Rachel uses storytelling through film and media to inspire connection and change. She has trained at The Second City in not only acting but improv comedy, and regularly acts in television, commercials, and film. Rachel has worked with major brands including Genesis, Google, and Republic Records, to name a few.
Whether she’s on set or scaling desert peaks, Rachel embodies resilience—intellectual, emotional, and creative. Her mission is clear: to inspire others to rise above adversity, embrace the power of their stories, and pursue their dreams with courage and purpose. As Miss Universe Canada, Rachel aims to amplify this message on a global stage—because empowered women empower the world.
