Daphne Moyo
Hometown: Sherwood Park, AB
Occupation: Dental Technician and Assistant
Born in Montreal, Daphne’s journey has been shaped by adaptability, resilience, and curiosity. At six years old, she and her sister moved to Southern Africa, where they spent much of their childhood before returning to Alberta in their teen years. Growing up between countries, cultures, and continents meant frequently being “”the new kid,”” teaching her how to adapt quickly, build connections, and embrace new experiences with confidence.
Daphne has always loved putting a smile on people’s faces having a career in Dentistry just made sense! Today, she works as an Orthodontic Assistant, where her passion for healthcare and connecting with people meet. Outside of her career, she believes women should be multifaceted and embraces all the opportunities life has to offer. Daphnes enjoys a range of activities from having fun with her family and friends, playing poker, swimming, volunteering in her community, or learning about random topics on the world around her— she is always looking for ways to grow and challenge herself.
As a former competitive swimmer, Daphne learned discipline and perseverance early in life, but she is the first to admit she is still a work in progress. Like many young women, she has experienced setbacks, self-doubt, and unexpected detours. Those experiences taught her that life is not linear—and often the best opportunities come from the places you least expect.
If there is one message she hopes to represent, it is evolution over perfection. She believes none of us have life completely figured out, and that’s okay. The goal isn’t to be flawless; it’s to keep growing, keep learning, and hopefully have a little fun along the way.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
My childhood friend Minnie has had a profound influence on me in recent years. 3 years ago, she was diagnosed with cancer, and watching her go through that journey completely changed my perspective on life. Minnie has always been a funny, expressive and intelligent person. Despite having her whole life change, she was strong and always kept her amazing qualities.
She has since recovered, but witnessing her perseverance taught me the importance of appreciating the simple things in life. I have realized that many of the stresses we face in relationships, work, or daily life are privileges in themselves — because some people are simply fighting for the chance to have their future and health.
What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?
One of my proudest accomplishments was moving across the country on my own for college. As someone from a small town, that experience pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me how to adapt to new circumstances. I got to make new friends, live in a new city, and graduate my dental program.
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
Something unique about me is that I used to play poker to help me save money before moving for school.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I aspire to further my education in dentistry and eventually transition into public service. My long-term goal is to hold a government position that allows me to connect with a variety of people, advocate for healthcare accessibility, and make a meaningful impact on communities across Canada. To do this, I am continuing to build my experience and education in healthcare and politics.
What would be your “dream job” in life?
My dream job would be to host a talk show. Focusing on meaningful topics such as health, philosophy, and current events. I would love to create a space where people from different backgrounds can share their perspectives, experiences, and information.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
Although born in Montreal, I was raised in the between the countries Zimbabwe and Botswana from around 6- 12 years old. I spent my time there competing in Swimming, living with my grandparents, and even went the FIFA World Cup in 2010. I later moved back to Canada and spent my the rest of my childhood in Alberta. I spent a lot of time at school, with friends, or on road trips with my mom and siblings around Alberta and BC.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
The most interesting job I have had was when I was 20, as a Student Receptionist at a large insurance company. The company truly cared about its employees and made going to work an enjoyable experience. On my first day of work, there was a team bonding day where all staff members attended an escape room then went for food.
During my time there, I got to know a lot of different people who acted as mentors towards me. I learnt about many topics based on their lived experiences and education. This job also taught me about insurance, which was something I had never thought much about until then.
List any volunteering you have done.
I started volunteering when I was a teenager in church as a youth leader. After high school, I volunteered at a children’s Camp called Camp Caroline. This was my favourite experience volunteering because of the environment, people, and variety of activities!
Recently while in college, I had the opportunity to volunteer at elementary schools teaching the children about the importance of dental hygiene.
What is your most unusual talent?
Not sure if this is a talent but I can solve large math equations on paper without relying on a calculator. A less boring talent is that I can open bottles with my teeth — although as a dental professional, I don’t recommend it Lol
Where is the most interesting place you have been to?
South Africa
What do you hope to be doing in ten years?
In 10 years, I only hope to be living a happy life with good health, relationships and further into my career.
