Canadian Connection: Miss Universe Canada and Canadian Designer set to create national costume

Langley, BC – November 17, 2016 – Siera Bearchell- Miss Universe Canada, will be competing in the 2016 MISS UNIVERSE® pageant and is working with Canadian costume designer, Rebecca McKenzie to create her national costume.

The MISS UNIVERSE® pageant will be held on January 30th, 2017 and each delegate is to wear a national costume that represents their country.
With women from 90 countries competing for the crown, Siera Bearchell is looking to stand out with her national costume this year. Teaming up with Rebecca McKenzie of Lux Custom Costume Design was a definite step in the right direction.

“It has been a life-long dream of mine to make the national costume for Miss Universe Canada. The design we have come up with is undeniably Canadian,” says Rebecca, “Siera will be hard to miss on that stage.”

With her experience on the international pageant stage and natural charisma, Siera is a sure-fire contender for the 2016 title. She is a law student, entrepreneur and a proud Saskatchewanian. Siera’s passion for community involvement has earned her the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Peter Mansbridge Youth Leadership Award, the Deloitte Inspiration Award and the Red Cross Young Humanitarian Award. Rebecca McKenzie has been creating costumes for over 20 years. She has a passion for glamorous pieces and her style is easily recognizable on stage. Her work is diverse, ranging from conceptual dance costuming to over-the-top fitness theme wear. Rebecca graduated from the New Brunswick College of Craft And Design with a diploma in fashion design in 2004. Originally from Miramichi, NB, Rebecca now lives in Langley, British Columbia.
