Spreeha Dutta was born in India, raised in the Middle East and Canada, and is now a proud Canadian Citizen currently living in Toronto. Despite living in many places around the world, she carries her rich Bengali heritage in everything she does. Despite being far from home, she maintains her relationship with her culture by planning events such as Diwali and Holi with teams of her fellow students across her university campus. Spreeha is active in both the performing arts and sports, finding true passions for singing and track and field. Thanks to an immense passion and determination, she has been able to achieve things she never thought she could such as Track and Field Provincial Championships and performing in front of the Manitoba Legislative Assembly.
Beyond that, her passion and fascination with the mind, brain and behaviour has led to her pursuing a double major in Psychology & Cognitive Science at the University of Toronto. She wishes to learn more about how these topics affect different environments such as the workplace and the relationships that impact our experience. Alongside her academic pursuits, she finds it extremely important to find time for herself, she does this by laying back and watching her favourite comfort show, baking some killer chocolate chip cookies, or by going on run under the beautiful Toronto sun.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?
Other than my parents, someone who has had the most influence in my life has to be my high school choir teacher. I met her for the first time in grade 10, but unfortunately I did not have enough time to commit to the choir even though I love to sing. Finally in grade 11, I was able to make time to be in both the senior choir and chamber orchestra choir, and I realized that she was so much more than just a teacher. She was a friend, a person to vent to, a mother, and a huge support who became a large part of my high school experience. During my grade 11 year, we got very close to the point where I would go to her for all kinds of advice, whether it was choral-based, academic, or I had a job interview and I wanted to ask for some tips. By the time I graduated, she had helped me become more confident in my sound, helped me during the university application process in more ways than one and she always had time to listen to my thoughts and feelings on any given day. Since graduating, she has invited me back to sing with the choir which was filled with a lot of nostalgia, and it is a experience I will never forget, all thanks to her!
What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?
My proudest personal accomplishment would have to be successfully completing my first year of university. It was the first time living away from my family, and there were so many new experiences I was having at the same time, and that was quite overwhelming at times. There were times where I definitely thought that I was not cut out for the university life and I thought that I would not make it through the first semester, let alone the first year. I am proud of myself for not only completing my first year, but also persevering and finding a way to balance my life in a way that would allowed me to perform to the best of my abilities, in the academic sphere at least. 🙂
What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?
One interesting thing about me is that I have a weirdly large knowledge of geography. It is one of my favourite topics to talk about and I am that person that will play flag guessing games on her phone all the time.
What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?
I would like to use my knowledge in the sciences and psychology to work in the learning & development sector of the corporate world. To accomplish this I am studying psychology in university alongside doing a business minor so I can learn and apply both parts of my education to do this. Additionally I am also attempting to gain work experience in that field so I can learn more about it.
What would be your “dream job” in life?
My dream job would be a professional singer because I want to see what it would be like to write my own music and be in a real music studio to get the chance to record it. I also would want to see what type of a person I would be if I ended up being a professional singer and I would want to see how I would handle it.
Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.
I was born in India and lived the first 9 years of my life in the Middle East, 3 in Bahrain and 6 in the UAE. I then moved to Canada with my parents and lived in a lovely neighbourhood in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I always loved going to school, so it was a huge part of my childhood and probably my favourite. I loved to learn new things and see my friends on a daily basis to the point that I used to cry at the foot of my door when the weekend would role around because I wanted to go to school. Overall, my childhood was filled with joy, laughter, adventure, and love from my family despite being far away from them.
List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.
Not the most unusual, but I was a lunch supervisor when I was 13 years old. It was definitely a job that stands out from my other occupations since that.
List any volunteering you have done.
I have volunteered in my local Hindu temple from the ages of 9 to 18 years old, at my local pharmacy as an assistant for the summer, local dog shows, school fundraisers for my graduation, and I have helped organize many event at UofT with the Indian Students Organization such as Diwali, Holi and many more.
What is your most unusual talent?
I can impersonate the minions voice as well as toad’s voice.
Where is the most interesting place you have been to?
The most interesting place I have been to has to be my home state of West Bengal, India. Since I have never lived in India for prolonged periods of time, everytime I visit, it is like a new adventure. There is so much to explore within such as jungles, cities, the mountains, and more. Every time I go back to visit, it feels like I have never been there because of the fact that there is always something new to explore. It has a special place in my heart and I would choose it as a top spot to visit over most places in the world.
What do you hope to be doing in ten years?
In ten years, I hope to be working in a position that not only lets my academic abilities shine through, but also in a position that allows me to meet new people and be a part of projects that I am truly passionate about. In terms of my personal life, I wish to have 2 dogs, one large and a small, and I would love to to either own a home in the suburbs or live in a big city.
