Q&A

What are your interests and what do you enjoy doing the most?

I love to dance and workout. Fitness has always been a huge passion of mine. And I of course love to travel, I enjoy seeing how locals live and taking in the culture. Another passion of mine is sustainability and fashion. As a model, you really get to see where and how the clothes are made. I make sure to work with brands who care about our future environments and the cycle of the garments. I also love to read and write. A few years ago I wrote and published my first book, called Sustainability in the City. It’s something I’m really proud of!

List any special training you have had (music, art, drama, dance, etc.)

I have been professionally trained in Film and Television by my mentor Mustafa Speaks. Everything from character analysis to exploring method acting. It really was such a one of a kind experience to have him take me through his process. I have been professionally coached in runway, commercial and print modelling. And lastly I have been trained in ballet, hip hop, lyrical and singing.

In what sports, if any, have you participated?

I love sports. Really anything that moves my body, but most of all I love volleyball! Tennis and Badminton are excellent sports as well.

Name one person, other than your parents, who has had the most influence on your life. Why?

I would have to again say my mentor Mustafa Speaks. He really helped me see a vision of my future and where I could take myself with entrepreneurship and my talents. Not only did it shift my confidence in myself, but I feel so calm in the woman I am now.

One of the main reasons I worked with him to get me to that point was really his testimony. He has built a wonderful career, on top of being a loving father and husband, all while also successfully running multiple businesses. Any time I have a bit of doubt that something might be too hard, or take too much time. I think of him and the worry falls away.

What is your proudest personal accomplishment (other than participating in this pageant)?

That really is a tough question. And I would have to say taking care of a loved one who went through countless illnesses over and over. Unfortunately accomplishing that goal of taking care of them means they are no longer here with me. But I am proud they trusted me with their most vulnerable moments, the hardest moments and the saddest moments. I got to be the one to hold them through it up until their last breath. I wanted them to feel respected and dignified even when that felt impossible given their diagnosis and needs. To know that I gave them what they needed in those moments, means everything to me.

What is the most interesting or unique thing that has ever happened to you and/or what is the most interesting thing about you?

People would not guess it, but one of the most interesting things about me is that I have had a ton of odd jobs in between modelling that would really surprise you. You don’t always have a steady set of shoots or projects lining up when you are started out, so before I had established myself in the industry, I was quite a chameleon. I have been a CFL mascot, an Ice Road Driving Instructor, a TV show host and producer, a Project Manager. The amount of odd certifications I have would surprise a career coach!

What is your career ambition and what are you doing or plan to do to accomplish that goal?

I have some wonderful long standing contracts within my modelling career that I am truly grateful for. Those brands are a pleasure to work with. I would love to branch out further and continue expanding my Airbnb business.

What would be your “dream job” in life?

I have my dream jobs now. Which I know is incredibly lucky! All I can do is hope to have more growth.

Describe where you were raised and what your childhood was like.

I was raised in Stony Plain Alberta. It’s a rural community in Alberta with strong family and agricultural values. I really am so grateful I got to experience the significance of the work that our farmers do to produce our food each year. I played a ton of sports and was rarely in the house. Nothing could keep me from training and being outside with my dog.

List any interesting or unusual jobs you may have had.

The most unusual job I have recently had was on set where we needed to be dead for a scene. My dress was an open back and the floor was concrete. Against all my pleas, the director wouldn’t accept any previous takes we had and this went on for about an hour. I was freezing, but we got the shot.

List any volunteering you have done.

I volunteer with the homeless in Vancouver on the Downtown East Side. There are many organizations that come together to make sure we are taking care of our homeless and that they are getting a warm meal and some real human interaction. I think this is such important work.

In the past I have worked with countless organizations from the SPCA, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Operation Smile, local community clean ups, Wildfire relief efforts, Flood relief efforts, Seniors support programs locally. There really are so many I have worked with and many I look forward to working for!

What is your most unusual talent?

I stay calm in almost any situation. I used let emotions get the best of me. But these days, I am like a rock.

Where is the most interesting place you have been to?

A year ago I went to Milan for Fall Fashion week. And while I loved the city, Lake Como stole my heart! It was so stunning and calming to see. If I had it my way I would live there.

What do you hope to be doing in ten years?

In ten years I would love to be settled down, with a house in the country side. A family of my own. Of course still modelling and acting!
