Twenty-two year-old Ashley Avery of Clarenville, NL was chosen by the Miss Universe Canada organization to represent Canada at the 2011 World Miss University competition in Seoul, Korea, from November 28-December 15.  Canada was one of 62 countries competing.

The final competition took place on December 15, and Avery became the first Canadian to win the online voting award at an international competition!

The public could log onto the World Miss University website and vote once per day for a two-week period. It was an extremely close race but Canada came out on top with 17,495 votes.  China took second place with 17,050, and Russia was third with 13,418.

The new World Miss University is 18 year-old Siria Bojόrquez, a student at Texas Tech University, who represented the USA.

The World Miss University is a competition for university students, with focus on environmental and global issues, academic standing, public speaking and volunteer work.
